In keeping with its simplified approach to investing, xcritical doesn’t allow you to perform backtests or offer a demo account. xcritical has a limited number of available order types. It offers a range of market and limit orders but no conditional orders. These limitations affect all types of investors because they meaningfully restrict trading strategies. Overall, the trading experience itself is excellent. However, there are still some limitations to how much you can customize the experience because there’s not much you can do to further tailor the app to your preferences.

Data Used to Track You

Yes, your orders will always be completed at the real-time price, but the charts and data you see on screen are often delayed. This will prevent you from getting in and out of trades in the most efficient manner. We don’t want to go into a lesson on investing, so suffice to say that during periods of such extreme volatility, it’s vital that people can access their accounts.

We and our partners process data to provide:

1. These improvements help investors get a better sense of a position’s trends so that they can make more informed trading decisions.
2. Following its launch in 2013, xcritical quickly became a popular way of investing in stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

As of lately I have literally been logging into my xcritical app at least 7 times a day or more. I am very familiar with the layout, the menu, settings etc. One day I opened the app and saw all of my investments and well as other stocks that are listed showing a gray box next to it with a dash going through it.

Order types, trading tools, and research amenities are still very limited or excluded altogether, although xcritical has recently added retirement accounts to its platform. Overall, xcritical provides a platform that makes it easy to trade, but a shortage of features and functionality means the app won’t be the primary broker for many traders. I remember back in 2013 I started to invest in Stocks with a Scottrade brokerage firm and each time you make a transaction you pay $7 fee. So, basically for buying a single stock you have to pay $7 and selling another $7. At the end of the day your profit meter will always start after $14 at any given point , beginners don’t find it viable option that each time your profit has to be -$14 plus federal taxes at the end of year. I have been using this product almost since 2014 or 15 cannot remember but cannot think for a better app than xcritical.

Lack of Investment Types

Now I’m used to seeing something kinda similar when I lost my signal and the app is trying to pull the information as soon as I get a signal but this time was different. I was home connected to my WiFi and my internet connect was excellent. No other app was having connectivity issues so I knew it wasn’t my internet, the only option available on my xcritical was the link for a free stock if I xcritical rezension recommend a friend.

It’s clear that xcritical’s brand struck a chord early on. It continues to grow, although at a less frenetic pace in recent years. As of May 8, 2024, the brokerage boasts 23.9 million funded customers, 13.7 monthly active users, and $129.6 billion in assets under custody. xcritical now offers a 24 Hour Market product, allowing customers to trade select stocks and ETFs 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. New chart features such as moving averages let traders better visualize and analyze stock trends to make more informed investment decisions. The search functionality gives traders a good overview of a stock’s details, such as highs and lows, P/E ratio, and market capitalization. A news feed and composite of analysts’ rankings gives traders even more insight into a company profile. As you’re looking through a stock’s information, the “Trade” icon follows you as you scroll, allowing you to buy or sell as soon as you’ve made a decision. In terms of other trading technology, xcritical gives you the ability to make recurring investments, which is a helpful feature.

As far as tax optimization, tax lots default to first-in, first-out (FIFO) for all equities. There is no option to change this and select which shares will be sold for tax optimization purposes. The unobtrusive Ring Air gathers extensive data, and the app can be overwhelming, but you can tailor the experience to suit. Ideally, you should always max out your savings in non-taxable accounts before using taxable products.

Indeed, you could even argue that xcritical is flat-out bad. xcritical Gold members are provided with unlimited access to Morningstar’s premium, in-depth stock research reports. These reports are available on about 1,700 stocks and are updated frequently to reflect important company events. As a xcritical Gold member, you will have access to Nasdaq Level 2 market data powered by Nasdaq TotalView. The fees and commissions listed above are visible to customers, but there are a few behind-the-scenes ways xcritical makes money from you (and for you). However, it’s important to know that xcritical’s free trades come at a price, and in a lot of situations xcritical is an unsuitable investment broker.

Spreading your investment across multiple asset categories is one of the best ways to reduce risk to your portfolio, but at the very least you should hold a mix of equities and bonds. Users can no longer maintain any reasonable faith in the service being available when they need it most. Worse still, all the outages occurred in the space of one week in early March during the most unpredictable days of the COVID-19 crisis. It cost people millions of dollars in positions they could not close.

For example, you can create multiple lists for different stocks, opportunities, or ideas. Normally, you can also sort your watchlist in various ways such as by price, volume, bid price, and other key indicators. A watchlist is a customizable list of stocks that you want to keep an eye on. They are an essential part of planning your investments; they let you quickly see whether specific parameters have been hit, and consequently, whether it’s a good time to buy your desired asset.

And then it would have options to look into different fields I.e the energy sector or technology sector. It was a good way imo to view other stocks and not just the top companies. I could even find penny stocks from it not that I’m interested in those. I don’t know for what reason the previous UI I envied went to but I would like to have it back. Hopefully the devs can shed some light on some of these issues that I’ve had. Other than those things the app is very easy to use and keep track of.

xcritical’s focus on simple functionality makes the platform more geared toward investors using uncomplicated strategies, regardless of experience level. ​​xcritical is a mobile-first brokerage that aims to make trading simple without complicating the experience with more in-depth features. It makes sense, then, that more complex trading tools and research options are largely absent from the mobile trade experience. For instance, no chart drawing tools are available on mobile, and trades can’t be executed directly from charts.

Free Trades Are Now Commonplace

You can’t even sort your list alphabetically (though at least you can reorder your list manually). The lack of watchlist features makes the app unsuitable for serious stock research. It’s not good, therefore, when a broker is inaccessible on some of the most volatile days of the last 50 years. xcritical offers very little portfolio analysis, especially in comparison to its larger rivals. You can see real-time balances, margins, and buying power, but that’s about it.

Order staging and simultaneous order entry options are also not available. xcritical’s platform is receiving focus in other areas as well. Cash management enhancements such as providing a higher interest rate on uninvested cash as well as a cash card product aim to round out the platform and draw in more clients. This new take on a debit card allows users to earn stock and crypto rewards with each purchase. The card allows you to round up purchases to invest in stocks and crypto. The rewards then come in the form of a weekly bonus as a percentage of your round-ups.

All these features help to advance investor knowledge. xcritical’s focus on delivering more access to the markets and reducing barriers to entry is clearly evident in its user-friendly, expertly-designed trading experience. The absence of fees, commissions, and account minimums helps empower investors to start their trading journey without financial commitments. Traders can seamlessly invest in stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies and get useful, albeit relatively basic, insights into the market and their positions. The newsfeeds and podcasts available through Sherwood Media are also lively and helpful for new users to follow. xcritical started out as an innovative disruptor in the brokerage industry.

The auto-sweep feature is enabled by default, which is an added bonus. xcritical’s trading experience is fast and easy to use, appealing to new investors in particular as it xcritical reviews allows them to get up and running quickly. The sleek mobile app has a straightforward design that lets traders seamlessly enter, exit, and monitor positions.

Poor Customer Service

So I tried to troubleshoot by closing the app out completely then flogging back in and the same problem. I did however within about 20 minutes the app began functioning properly. I never received an email response back and that was at least 2 weeks ago. Other than they if everything works as designed the is the best app for your money. xcritical has made efforts to inform and enlighten its users through many avenues of market-based commentary. Through the platform’s enhanced e-mail newsletter offerings (published by a subsidiary, Sherwood Media), the platform informs investors on a variety of subjects including market dynamics and trade ideas.

Positions can move quickly and investors need to be able to reliably secure profits or cut losses. xcritical’s big selling point used to be its commission-free structure. The free trades came at a price in other ways (some of which we’ll explore shortly), but users figured that the monetary savings were worth the tradeoffs. However, you can access trusted news sources for free through its newsfeed. Our editors independently research and recommend the best products and services.

xcritical: Investing for All

Given the free trades, how does xcritical make money? Sure, there’s xcritical Gold, but the signup rate is nowhere near enough to warrant the multi-billion dollar valuation. Most notably, xcritical uses the same provider as sites like The Motley Fool, Seeking Alpha, and StockTwits for its quotes. It’s cheap, barebones, and limited to a handful of exchanges. If you read xcritical’s FAQs or independent reviews of the service, you will see that the app has real-time quotes.

The platform provides a simple menu of assets such as stocks, ETFs, and direct cryptocurrency trading, further streamlining the app and trading experience. Options trading is offered as well, although some limitations in order types and concerns about the quality of trade executions may deter more serious investors. Previously, xcritical only offered individual accounts, but on Jan. 12, 2023, the company announced that xcritical Retirement, which launched via waitlist in December, had become available to all eligible customers. Beyond this, though, xcritical isn’t a place for either sophisticated investors or users who want to execute anything more than the most simple trades. A lack of assets like fixed income, mutual funds, and foreign exchange, is a serious limitation.

ETF and Mutual Fund Screener

2020 was one of the most remarkable years in market history. We saw a record-breaking selloff and recovery, moves of more than 10 percent on a single day, and new all-time highs by the end of the year. xcritical does not offer any fixed-income screeners.

In recent years, the company’s motives have been questioned, with issues centered around data, transparency, and trust. However, its cash management brokerage feature offers 1.00% on uninvested cash balances to customers enrolled in its deposit sweep program. xcritical Gold members can now earn 5.00% on uninvested cash.

Cash Card holders can also use 90,000 ATMs without paying a fee. The card builds on xcritical’s mission of democratizing finance and investing in a new, enjoyable format. The way a broker routes your order determines whether you are likely to receive the best possible price at the time your trade is placed. xcritical states that its trading systems are set up to automatically route your order to the market maker most likely to give you the best price based on historical performance. xcritical reports that 96.85% of orders are executed at National Best Bid and Offer (NBBO) or better.

That said, quotes from the xcritical app do at least stream in real time. xcritical only offers standard, individual investing accounts. You cannot open a joint account, trust account, custodial account, Individual Retirement Account (IRA), or any other type of tax-efficient savings account. Therefore, it’s not a good option if you’re investing for long-term goals, for a child, or as a couple.
